Burgau and surrounding area.

There is a cashpoint in the village, banks can be found in nearby Luz and Lagos. Burgau has a number of very well stocked convenience stores, a large supermarket can be found on the main road leading to the village, some 5 minutes drive away. The Intermarche hypermarket in Lagos (take the first exit into Lagos when coming from Burgau, you'll come to it on the right in about another 2km) is the equal of any of the UK supermarkets and has a huge range of food, drink clothing and household items. There is also a fresh fish market in the village centre (by the bus stop) early each morning and one of the biggest fish markets in Portugal 10 minutes away in Lagos.

A number of the restaurants in the village have an excellent reputation for both quality and value, in particular the ever popular beach bar and the family run Ancora restaurant. There are also several small, friendly bars including the Smugglers Bar which is set on the main street leading to the beach. In addition there are two takeaway stores selling a range of pizza, pasta and other freshly prepared and good value food.

The Burgau sports centre, 5 minutes walk from the apartment, offers a wide range of leisure facilities including squash and tennis (equipment available for hire) and is open to visitors all year round. There is also a horse riding facility on the edge of the village where all the necessary equipment and training can be provided at a reasonable price.

Further afield there are larger shopping centres at Alvor and the new Algarve Shopping centre at Guia, on the old road between Guia village and Albufeira, here there are over 200 stores under one roof along with a selection of fast food and traditional restaurants. To drive here from Burgau will take around 30 minutes. Guia itself is the home of Chicken Piri Piri and has many 'Frango' restaurants which specialise in serving large portions of this traditional Portugese dish. Just past Guia is the 'Big One' water park and the 'Zoomarine' park
